my opinion about MULTIMA

After reading few posts about Introduction to Studying Multimedia Authoring Systems, I supose that I will not write anything new. I completely agree with you Multima students :)
I think that our course it's realy simple and we didn't learn anything new - it was too little deploying. Everyone can make a blog (even without broad knowledge about computer, Internet etc.) and it's very common in these days. I like this way of getting assesment, because we don't have to make a lot of work, however in my opinion it should be more complicated or just added to another task (like a part of activities to pass). I know that it's a basic course, but for me too basic.
I think a good idea is to launch courses at different levels. People come here from places all over the world with different knowledge about 'informatic things' - some of them need basic course, some are good and want to broaden their skills so need advanced course. I know it's hard to make a programme of the course which will be up to everyone, but maybe our opinions and ideas will help to find a solution to improve it.

trip to Helsinki

I went to Helsinki to pick up my friend from the airport and we spent there whole weekend. I came back yesterday. It was great, although it finished in not nice way...
We saw Helsinki Cathedral, Upenski Orthodox Cathedral, Senate Square, Rock Church and many other very interesting and beautiful places. We visited some nice pubs, tried real reindeer meet and had realy nice fun. I like this city. It's different from Vaasa - more entertaining and dynamic.
I liked the Sunday's walk the most. There was no traffic on the streets, not a lot of people - very silent and uneventful. We were walking around the city on pretty small streets.

Study requirements: Other courses in Multimedia Authoring Systems Studies.
Objective: To apply the learned techniques and software in practice.
Course content: Each student conducts an individual multimedia project using the skills acquired during the programme. Students are encouraged to select their own subjects according to their study field. Instead of a multimedia presentation the project can consist of an extensive essay about the theoretical foundations of multi- and hypermedia from the point of view of their field of study.

Completion of the course: An accepted project work
Literature: -
Language of instruction: English

Today we had a first meeting. We didn't get a lot of information, but as much as I know it's a little bit strange. We have to divide into groups and make some project. It can be everything - webpage, some programm or whatever we want. The topic it's also our choice and also can be everything. I have realy no idea what to do. Till 9th of March we should write an email to teacher about the topic and number of members of the group. I'm affraid that there will be a lot of work to do to get the assesment, and at first a lot of work to make up the titlle of our project. But I hope everything will be all right.

probe :)

I'm proposing a little probe. Courious about the result? Just vote :)

Introduction to studying Multimedia Authoring Systems

The course was very short (only 8hours). The main purpose was to acquaint students with studies in Multimedia Authoring Systems programme and to provide with skills and information to improve their academic performance.

Requirements for getting assesment:
I like that course :) especially the way of passing it. It's easy, cushy and likeable. It's not necessary to read looooooooong, boring books and learn hard definitions or rules by heart.
Frankly speaking sometimes I don't know what to write on my blog, that's why it is not so interesting. I'm not accustomed to tell or write about "my stuff"... Nevertheless I like the way of getting the assesment very much :)

Have a nice evening :)

Survival Finnish

Credits: 2 ECTS credits
Objective and course content: The course offers students some basic knowledge of the
Finnish language needed in everyday life.
Methods of study: Lectures and exercises 20 hours
Requirements for the credit units: Active participation in lectures and exercises
Literature: Provided by the teacher
Language of instruction: English

The course was on 3rd and 4th week. It was very intensive. Why? We had classes every day for two weeks at 8:30 in the morning. It was very hard to get up and the darkness outside made it more difficult. However I like that course :)
But finnish language is still a big riddle for me. It's very hard to learn and understand.
What is more:
  • no articles,
  • no gender,
  • many endings and suffixes, eg. autossa - in car BUT autossani - in my car. That's why sometimes words are very long and difficult to tell,
  • many similar words, which meaninis is totally different, eg. kokoo - to gather, koko - whole, kokko - bonfire; or tuli - fire, tuuli - wind, tulli - customer.
Generally, I'm satisfied of the course. I learned some bacis useful words. I was so glad about myself when I was going to univeristy one day and some guy said to me "huomenta" and I knew what he meaned :)

problem with the key

After sitting on the corridor for an hour I have just came in to my apartment...

When I was going out, I closed the door and than I orienteted that I didn't take my keys. For sure you know the locking system in our student houses - without a key you can't open the door.
I went to Ursula's apartment and told her my story. I was so angry... We were thinking what to do. Normaly I can take the key from my flatmate Magda, but she's on the trip and she's coming back on Wednesday or Thursady. So there were two solutions: stay in Ursula's place for a night and go in the morning to VOAS for a spare key or call for help. After some discussion we decided to phone to RTK Vaasa Oy (it's a company which helps VOAS and which you can call in case you find anything to repair or service in your apartment ). At first "repair guy" said that I have to pay for this service 21 euro, because of Sunday (not-working hours), but after some time we convinced him for 7euro (normal rate during the week day, not at night). He came here and opened my door. Than asked for some Id to check my name on the list of residents in Tekla, to be sure if I realy live here. What was funny there wasn't my surname on the list. According to that some 2 boys live in my room :P
However, fortunetely now I'm here :))

REMEMBER never ever don't forget to take your keys!!!

Introduction to Multimedia and Hypertext

The principal purpose of this Multima course is to introduce basic historical and technical information concerning multimedia, hypermedia and hypertext. It's mainly theoretical, but Olli Raatikainen - the teacher presents also practical applications, what make the course more clear and more interesting.

Today I went to university for the lecture from that course.
The topic was "www-the biggest hypertext system to date". We learned what are the main rules of writing texts and than how to move it to www. We have to make a new dimension of the text to make users feeling as moving in the hyper space, eg. like in imaginary city. After putting the text to www it's very important to test it. What is more, pictures and links play a relevant role on www. Pictures help us to understand hypertext's structures and links make text more advanced (if there is a lot of links text become not only one chanel of distibution).

The lecture was interesting, because the things which we learned are very important. I have never made my own webpage, but now - after the lecture I know the basics and I can try (not today, but some day...). Wish me luck :p

Fat Wednesday vs. Valentine's Day

Today there's Valentine's Day. Frankly speaking I hate this holiday. Everyone sends the cards with hearts, presents flowers and so on, but we can express our feelings to beloved person each day... I think that Velentine's Day is far-fetched...
Tomorrow in Poland is Fat Thursady (which is also celebrated in Germany - Fetter Donnerstag). It's traditional feast marking the last Thursday before the Lent. People eat large quantities of sweets. Polish traditional dishes, which are served on that day are pączki (fist-sized donuts filled with marmalade) and faworki (crispy biscuits in the shape of thin folded ribbons).
Beacuse Magda is going on the trip tomorrow, we decided to organize Fat Wednesday. And because today is also Valentine's Day, we connected these two holidays :) Fat Wednesday vs. Valentine's Day - sounds nice :) We made faworki and we had a great fun.

walk

Yesterday, after saturday night fever, I decided to go for a walk to get some fresh air and had it all together :) The weather was beautiful - clear sky, shining sun, only - 5 degrees, no wind - just enjoy!
I turned right next to the S-market and got to a big area covered with ice - amazing view. I was so surprised when I saw there a lot of people that were walking with dogs, skiing, riding on snowmobiles - everyone on ice... After some hesitating I went on ice... I was a little bit afraid, but I thought if other people are walking without any problem I can also try :) Check out the photos.
